Super Eagles: Always Flattering to Deceive

The  are on a wave of high. The goodwill is immense and the followership is even crazy. Heck, our Jersey is even rated as one of the best heading into the  in .
The team has been impressive albeit not with a crisp playing style of football.
Dispatching oppositions match after match with Poland the latest victim to fall at the sword of the Nigerian team but we’ve been here before.
Almost all the time we start our World cup preparations we usually blow teams away and build up hope of a fantastic participation at the World cup. We even always unearth new gem at this stage who will have a good spell in the team and end up making the flight to the World cup only for him and the whole team to flatter to deceit.
We will be making the World cup appearance as one of the youngest team which that’s a discussion for another day but in truth, the team had got massive prospect. With nothing to lose, we can always be daring and adventurous that is what has propelled this team. Still, we need to be realistic about our chances.
The Super Eagles will not win the World cup at best, the quarterfinals but what will be a successful tourney will be us making it to the Semifinals which no African team has been able to ever pull that off. A tough ask it’s but it’s possible. No one saw us coming to win the last Nations cup that we did and yes, the World cup is not the Nations cup but football is football. Portugal rode their luck during the last Euros and despite being one of the poorest team they ended up winning the championship.
Optimism is good but let’s be realistic as well. The team has a good spirit about it but it will need more than that to excel. The goalkeeping area in particular is a major source of concern which we need to address since the abrupt retirement of one of the best in the world in Vincent Enyeama we haven’t been able to find a capable replacement. Carl Ikpeme would have been a good choice but due to ill luck we lost him to cancer which he’s still treating. Concerns about the midfield as well but all these we can address and hopefully fix before we jet out to Russia
We can get excited but let’s not get carried away because we’ve been here before and we know how the story ends
.
