FG Moves to Pay N10bn Salary Arrears, Others
The Federal Government has begun steps to pay outstanding salaries and other allowances owed federal civil servants in the country.
The Deputy Director in charge of Press at the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Mr. Samuel Olowookere, said this in a statement on Friday.
He said the process was initiated after top officials of the government met on the lingering issue of unpaid allowances and arrears of public servants on Friday.
Olowookere said that the meeting demonstrated the government’s commitment “to clear all arrears, such as outstanding allowances on promotion, 28 days relocation, repatriation, training, burial expenses and death benefits to public servants.”
He said the meeting held in pursuit of the directive of the Federal Executive Council of May 24, 2017, to pay the outstanding arrears.
He added that the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation had commenced processing N10bn for the payment of promotion arrears, noting that the modalities for payment were being worked out to avoid paying the wrong persons.
Those at the meeting were the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige; the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udo Udoma; the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun; and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita.
